Orange Pet Nat made from Riesling grapes

A sparkling Riesling Pet-Nat from Matic Wines, this wine was aged on the skins in an earthenware amphora for 22 days before bottling and is made without the addition of any sulfur.

Pét-Nat, short for the French term pétillant-naturel, is an exciting ‘new’ type of sparkling wine. Pét-Nat is used for natural sparkling wines, produced according to the ‘méthode ancestrale’. The sparkling wine is bottled before the first fermentation is complete. The quality of the pét-nat is then obtained from the sugars contained in the grapes via the naturally produced carbonic acid.

In the glass, the Mea Orange Pet-Nat from Slovenia is a golden-orange colour and very cloudy, as we would like to see in an unfiltered natural wine Pet-Nat.

The nose is lush with beautiful herbal aromas, along with earthy notes from the clay maturation. The typical Riesling notes emerge in the mouth with a pleasant acidity. Alongside these, there are fruity apple and pear aromas and the flavours of bitter orange zest.

A pet-nat from Slovenia for adventurous connoisseurs. Matic himself says of his Mea Orange: ‘This is a crazy piece of wine production.’
