Falezze di Luca Anselmi Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2018

For the Valpolicella Ripasso Falezze, the best grapes from the careful hand-picking at the end of September are placed in boxes and then remain in the kiln for a month and a half. The Ripasso fermentation process is a very special one. The slightly dried grapes are first pressed after St. Martin's Day, 11 November, to obtain a Valpolicella Superiore.

The dried, but unpressed grape skins from the previous Amarone production are added to these grapes. The yeasts and sugars contained in the skins cause the second stage of fermentation to begin. The wine is aged for at least 18 months in French oak barrels. This results in a wonderful balance between ripe tannins and minerality.

In the glass, the Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore shows a ruby red colour with garnet and orange reflections. On the nose, plums, cherries, blackcurrants, accompanied by floral notes of violets and rounded off with vanilla. Wonderfully dense, complex and engaging on the palate. The finish is pleasantly mineral and spicy.

A real treat of a red wine, which also impresses with its particularly long shelf life.
