The Queen of Brda - Orangewein Rebula

The autochthonous Rebula variety with its minerality is a kind of mirror image and the pride of the Brda wine region. It has been cultivated here since at least the 13th century. The Rebula vines of the Movia winery are harvested late and transferred directly to fermentation after only a maximum of 2 hours. This takes place with its own yeasts. The Slovenian natural wine gains its main maturity for 8 months, 90% in 500L oak barrels and 10% in Inox tanks, where it gains its strength and harmony. It comes unsulphurised and unfiltered in the bottle.

The name Ribolla (Italian) is derived from ‘ribollire’, which means ‘to boil up’. The Bora wind in the Litoral cooled the cellars before the sugar-rich grape must could fully ferment and stopped the fermentation, only to allow the wine to ‘reboil’ in spring.

The Movia Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) has an inviting golden to amber colour, which is indicative of prolonged skin contact. The nose is surprisingly rich for a Rebula, with apple, peach and yellow plum notes coming to the fore. There are also aromas of orange peel and lemon, almond blossom and floral notes of roses. We also detect gentle notes of vanilla, aniseed and rosemary. The Rebula is wonderfully dry, with a hint of tannin and a salty, spicy character and lots of life.

It is already excellent now, but will continue to be so for at least another 10 years. Try this regional Slovenian grape variety and let yourself be enchanted.
