Matic Amfora Sipon 2022

Our first amphora wine from Slovenia

Matija Zerjav, known as Matic, is part of a younger generation of winemakers who are not satisfied with the status quo and practice biodynamic viticulture out of deep conviction. All of Matic's wines are aged dry and harvested by hand from his 8-hectare estate in north-eastern Slovenia, just outside the city of Maribor. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, without the addition of pure yeasts. All wines are lovingly bottled by hand and contain little to no sulphur.

A new project for Matic and also a novelty for us in the WEINNATUR online shop is the Matic Amfora Sipon, amphora wine. The amphorae used for the Sipon are buried underground, where the maceration of the grape skins with the grape juice takes place before they are dug up and left to rest in the cellar before bottling. Sipon or Furmint is unique in this style and has very special aromas.

In the glass a bright orange colour, unfiltered. On the nose, intense aromas of grilled peaches, light smoke, with earthy notes. On the palate, beautifully creamy with pronounced tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish.

The Amfora Sipon from Matic is a unique natural wine, a real must-taste for anyone who loves something special and orange wine.
