Matic Amfora Sipon 2020

Our first amphora wine from Slovenia

Matija Zerjav, simply called Matic, belongs to a younger generation of winemakers who are not satisfied with the status quo and practice biodynamic farming methods out of deep conviction. All Matic wines are dry-aged and hand-harvested on his 8-hectare estate in northeast Slovenia, just outside the city of Maribor. Fermentation occurs spontaneously without the addition of pure yeasts. All wines are lovingly bottled by hand and contain little to no sulphur.

A new project for Matic and also a novelty for us in the WEINNATUR online shop is the Matic Amfora Sipon, amphora wine. The amphorae used for the sipon are buried underground where the matzeration of the grape skins with the grape juice takes place before they are dug up and left to rest in the cellar before bottling. The Sipon or Furmint is unique in this style and has very specific flavors.

A strong, bright orange in the glass, unfiltered. On the nose, intense aromas of grilled peaches, light smoke, with earthy notes. Nice and creamy in the mouth with distinctive tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish.

The Amfora Sipon from Matic is a unique natural wine, a real must-taste for everyone who loves something special and orange wine.
