Matic Sauvignon Ya Yeh 2025

A wonderful natural Sauvignon from northern Slovenia

Matija Zerjav, known simply as Matic, belongs to a young generation of Slovenian winemakers who practise biodynamic viticulture out of deep conviction. On his 8-hectare estate in north-eastern Slovenia, just outside the city of Maribor, he produces natural wines that are spontaneously fermented without the addition of selected yeasts. All wines are lovingly harvested and bottled by hand and contain little to no sulphur.

Matic’s Sauvignon Blanc is a true gem of a wine. Aged on the skins for a full 25 days in Eggoist concrete eggs. The grapes come from high-altitude vineyard slopes, the perfect location for full ripening. The Sauvignon Ya Yeh is a rich and full-bodied Sauvignon. The skin contact brings out full-bodied aromas and deep tropical notes. A subtle hint of grapefruit rounds off this natural wine, alongside delicate notes of bread. The name Ya Yeh refers to the wine’s maturation in an egg-shaped vessel. A local nickname for eggs is jaja, pronounced ‘ya yeh’.
