Dry, fruity, exotic – Furmint from Slovenia

Furmint is the oldest grape variety in Slovenian Styria. It has been cultivated in Slovenia for a very long time. The local name – Šipon (‘sheep’) – came about when French soldiers occupying the region tasted it and commented: ‘Mhmm, cest si bon’.

The 2024 vintage from the Dveri-Pax winery has a light lemon-yellow colour. The aroma is very delicate with beautiful floral accents reminiscent of a walk through blossoming vineyards. The classic Furmint notes are more pronounced – ripe pears, yellow apples. Elegant, fruity, very inviting.

On the palate, it is dry, typical of Šipon, with moderate acidity. Mineral and slightly salty aromas emerge on the palate. It is surprising how long the aromas linger for such a light, fresh wine. It is an excellent choice as an aperitif. After the 2016 vintage, this is another classic Furmint from the Dveri-Pax winery.
