Burja Zelen 2023 organic wine

Zelen is an indigenous white wine variety of Slovenia and is very popular in the Vipava Valley. ‘Zelen’ means green in English.

For the Burja Zelen, Primoz Lavrencic uses vines that are 5–10 years old. In the current vintage, the grape juice was in contact with the skins for 2 days and then matured in steel tanks for 7 months. This process gives the Zelen a very unique flavour. Its colour is a bright gold.

When we pour it into the glass, fresh citrus notes immediately emerge. Grapefruit and green apple and floral aromas. The first impression continues in the mouth. Here, too, we find lemon, grapefruit and paprika. There are light herbal notes and a unique saltiness, which we tend to associate more with wines that grow in Mediterranean regions.

On the palate, it is perfectly dry, well-balanced, buttery and characterised by minerality. The Burja Zelen - a complex, exciting and biodynamically produced white wine of the highest quality from Slovenia.
