The southern Italian wine region of Apulia has experienced a truly meteoric rise in recent years, thanks in part to Primitivo. For many lovers of Italian wines, it is the epitome of a fruity, intensely ripe red wine. Apulia's terroir is predestined for wine growing, so it is not surprising that, with 90,000 hectares, it is Italy's largest wine-growing area. Other exciting grape varieties in the region include the red Bombino Nero and Nero di Troia, as well as the white Bombino Bianco and Fiano. The Torrevento winery specialises in the sustainable production of traditional varieties, and its wines are known far beyond the borders of Italy.
