Matic Sauvignon Ya Yeh 2023

Wonderful natural wine Sauvignon from the north of Slovenia

Matija Zerjav, simply called Matic, belongs to a young generation of Slovenian winemakers who practice biodynamic farming methods with deep conviction. On his 8-hectare estate in northeast Slovenia, just outside the city of Maribor, natural wines are produced that are spontaneously made without the addition of pure yeasts. All wines are lovingly harvested and bottled by hand and contain little to no sulphur.
Matic's Sauvignon Blanc is a true wine jewel. Matured on the shells in Eggoist concrete eggs for a full 25 days. The grapes come from high vineyard slopes, the perfect location for full ripening. The Sauvignon Ya Yeh is a rich and full-bodied Sauvignon. The contact with the peel brings out full aromas and deep tropical notes. A light grapefruit note rounds off the natural wine, along with fine bread notes. The name Ya Yeh refers to the aging of the wine in an egg-shaped vessel. A local nickname for eggs is jaja, pronounced “ya yeh.”
