Burja Zelen 2024 organic wine

Zelen is an indigenous white wine variety from Slovenia and is very popular in the Vipava Valley. “Zelen” translates as “green” in English.

For Burja Zelen, Primoz Lavrencic uses vines that are 5–10 years old. In the current vintage, the grape juice was in contact with the skins for two days and then matured in steel tanks for seven months. This process gives Zelen its very own character. Its color is a bright gold.

When poured into a glass, fresh citrus notes immediately emerge. Grapefruit, green apple, and floral aromas. The first impression continues in the mouth. Here, too, lemon, grapefruit, and paprika. Light herbal notes and a unique saltiness, more familiar to us from wines grown in Mediterranean regions.

On the palate, it is perfectly dry, balanced, buttery, and characterized by minerality. Burja Zelen—a complex, exciting, and biodynamically produced white wine of the highest quality from Slovenia.
